It's no secret that the science and technology world today is dominated by men. Fortunately, over the past few years there has been an uprising of awareness and progress in efforts to balance the field; to destroy the stigma against geeky girls at a young age, to change the perception of female leaders being "bossy", to encourage women to rise against the gender adversity they face, and to encourage men to recognize their part in creating a male-dominated field and the disadvantages it causes for the progress of science and technology. In this talk, I'll go over all of these topics, and illustrate some of the subtle and not-so-subtle things in society that have helped cultivate the gender imbalanced tech world we live in today. I will go over some ideas that men can emulate in order to help chip away at this environment, and finally I will discuss ways that women can advance their position and be better recognized in a male-dominated industry.
